Teho. is a Finnish power-fiddle duo that explodes musical boundaries while having roots deeply in the tradition. Teho’s fiddlers grew up in Central Ostrobothnia, Finland – an area known for its extremely virile and rich folk music life.

Their music combines fluently Finnish traditional fiddling, Norwegian Halling, Swedish Polska, Bebop, Western Swing, and contemporary folk music. Improvisation also plays a big part of the duo’s sound. Tero Hyväluoma and Esko Järvelä are both top-notch names in the Nordic folk music field and cross-over freelancers without genre boundaries. They have played together for years in various different bands and projects, including one of the most well known Finnish folk bands, Frigg. Teho.’s debut album was nominated for a Finnish Grammy (Emma Awards) in 2018.

Recipients of the prestigious Opus Award for 2019 Album of the Year with their debut (World music and Traditional Québec music), Skye Consort & Emma Björling perform trans-Atlantic chamber folk arrangements of songs and tunes from Sweden, Norway, Ireland, Scotland, England, Québec, Acadia, the USA, as well as original compositions. Each musician brings their own individual interpretation to these traditions to create an extraordinary collaboration, consisting of voices, fiddle, nyckelharpa, cello, bouzouki, banjo, and percussion. Together they produce an assortment of whirling polskas, moving reels, passionate love songs, and breathtaking hymns and songs.

The release of their second album, Ode & Ballade, released in 2024 has sent them touring the globe once again across North America and Scandinavia, selling out venues and making new friends and fans wherever they go. This acclaimed album comprises stories of medieval saints and sacred wells, fair maidens outsmarting presumptuous knights, beautiful or boisterous drinking songs, thieves meeting their fate, heartbreaking love songs, and groovy dance tunes. CBC Music, Robert Rowat gave this advice: “If you’re lucky enough to have a cottage to escape to when the warm weather hits, take this album with you.” And Leslie Barcza wrote: “I think it speaks for itself, the musicianship, the powerful invocation of times gone by. The whole CD is magical like that, sometimes in Swedish sometimes French, sometimes English.”

With their voices moving together in tight harmony or intertwining in a whirling tempo, the highly acclaimed “Folk’apella” vocal group, Kongero, draws traditional Swedish music out of the past and into the present, taking the listener on a fabulous Scandinavian folk musical journey.

One of Finland’s hottest musical exports and true masters of the Finnish folk tradition, the sizzling Nordic septet have carved themselves a top notch in folk with their heart-bursting, life-affirming, feelgood tunes and immaculate precision musicianship. Named after the Norse goddess of love and fertility, this exquisite lineup has been credited with creating their own captivating style of music — Nordgrass, fusing Nordic folk and American bluegrass — which has found widespread appeal among folk, world and classical music fans alike.

FRIXX was their first album since 2017’s Frost on Fiddles — Songlines ‘Top of the World’ album, and 2012’s highly acclaimed Polka V — Finnish Folk Album of the Year and a nominee for the Teosto Prize. This prestigious award is handed out annually by Finnish composers — recognizing the fact that Frigg almost exclusively perform their own infectious original tunes. 2023 brought us the acclaimed album Heritage, steeped in Finnish folk roots.

25 years of fiddling around the globe, eleven albums, about a thousand gigs in thirty countries, and tens of thousands of kilometers later, that same passion still burns. The hypnotic combination of the violin sound, which has already become a concept, and the irresistibly pounding ringing of string instruments and the pulse of the double bass, continues to create its banks like a slowly flowing spring hill stream, the source of which is precisely known.

Their passion and enthusiasm still fuels Frigg, and the band continues its upward trajectory toward its 25th anniversary in 2025, promising a twelfth album and much new and delightful content!
